"When it came to shooting the big day, Erik orchestrated everything perfectly including calming me down during a stressful moment, making us all laugh, and capturing all the "good angles". From the first few photos I received, his work made me feel absolutely beautiful."
- Hannah & Ryan
"Erik is worth every penny and I would highly recommend him to anyone!"
"Our engagement photo session was SO fun, and my husband and I both immediately felt comfortable with Erik. He is so friendly and so easy to work with. Getting pictures taken like that with a significant other can feel awkward, but Erik made it anything but that! It felt very natural and enjoyable, and it felt the exact same way on our wedding day."
- Hannah & Jake
"He took the time to get to know us and our vibe, and rolled with that when taking our pictures."
"His work is pure magic—each photo a masterpiece, telling the story of our love with unmatched artistry. Professional, unobtrusive, and a true visionary, Erik’s effortlessly captured every emotion and moment. The post-production brilliance elevated the visuals to breathtaking heights. Not only is he an amazing photographer, but he also is a spectacular extra ‘honorary bridesman' as he puts it."
- Melissa & Cooper
"Our Best vendor at our wedding!"
My couples are family. I believe in a genuine friendship rather than being chosen for simply having a camera in my hand. Hearing and understanding how each and every couple has met and how they've grown together is extremely important to me and it's beneficial for gaining trust with your photographer. Trust is important, because having it makes taking photos so much easier during your engagement session as well as on your wedding day. Being comfortable in front of the camera comes with accepting and befriending the person behind the lens...ME.
Your experience is different from everyone else's and when you invest in our high-end experience, I invest in yours. I will help you create a simple and organized process for your day so you can be fully present with your family and friends. I can also help craft a timeline that is uniquely you while making sure to photograph ever special moment that you desire and expect. My goal is to use my expertise to make sure that your wedding planning and wedding experience is absolutely stress free. From having lived it myself, I am here to help you. I'll handle your details.

Film photography — specifically 35mm and 120 — plays a vital role in how I document a wedding day. It’s not just a stylistic choice; it’s a deeply intentional part of my process. I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BFA in Fine Art Photography, where I learned to mix chemicals, develop negatives by hand, and print in the darkroom. That foundation instilled in me a love for film’s tangible, soulful qualities — and it’s why I still bring it into every wedding I photograph. Film slows me down in the best way. It forces me to be thoughtful — to pause, to consider light and emotion before pressing the shutter. Choosing between 35mm or medium format, picking my settings, and knowing when to reach for my film camera on a fast-moving wedding day is a beautiful challenge I truly love. For my couples, it means receiving a small collection of one-of-a-kind, timeless images that can never be duplicated — a unique gift preserved on real film.
Film has a rich history as the foundation of photography — it’s how generations of memories were documented long before digital ever existed. The grain, the tones, the softness of highlights — all of it holds a timeless, emotive quality that simply can’t be replicated. But using film today isn’t as easy as it once was. With ongoing price hikes, discontinued stocks, and a shrinking supply of both film and reliable labs, it’s become a more delicate and costly process. That’s exactly why it matters so much. Shooting film in today’s fast-paced, digital-heavy world takes care, experience, and intention. You have to know your tools, your lighting, and your settings — there’s no screen on the back, no do-overs. But that’s what makes it so powerful. Film requires trust, both from the photographer and the couple. And when done right, it results in something truly rare: images that feel both nostalgic and alive, grounded in the legacy of photography itself.
Different film stocks each bring their own personality to a wedding day. Kodak Portra 800 is my go-to for its beautiful balance of warmth, fine grain, and ability to handle low light without losing detail — perfect for golden hour or indoor moments without flash. It renders skin tones softly and naturally, with just the right touch of nostalgia. Ilford HP5 is my favorite black-and-white stock, with its bold grain and emotional depth that feels timeless and honest. Each roll I load is a deliberate choice — based on light, energy, and what part of the story I’m capturing. Film isn’t just a medium; it’s a creative decision that shapes the mood and memory of your day.

For many people, the engagement session may seem terrifying at first, especially if you hate being in front of the camera, trying to figure out which outfits to wear, wondering which locations could and would not be ideal, all the way to having to choose which season you want to photograph in. Simply put, the whole thing can be daunting. However, having an engagement session can actually solve your fear of being in front of the lens and it can be one of the best bonding moments of your relationship and I'll tell you why!
Actually experiencing your engagement session brings to life something new in your relationship, almost as if it's your first step as being husband and wife. It's a learning and growing process between both you and I that helps us both become comfortable with a camera around. Instead of stiff and awkward poses, I like to say prompts, play games, and incorporate parts of your relationship which in turn creates poses that represent who you two truly are. You want photos that you can post on social media, print, and be proud and excited of. I give you exactly that!
No, I do not. What you receive is part of a process of eliminating... duplicates, test shots, missed focus shots, shots that are unflattering, and shots that may compromise the essence and overall look of your wedding day.
Chances are I have photographed at your venue, even if its an hour + away from my home base. If I have not, do not fret as I can visit your location beforehand to make you feel more comfortable. If not, I thrive being at new venues because of the challenge!
By far the most common question, I am actively working with every couple to deliver the same experience wether dealing with COVID-19 or not. In the chance that you need to re-schedule your wedding, I will be readily available to work with you and your vendors (free of charge) to find a date that works for you.
Thank you so much for considering me to be a part of your wedding day! If you’re interested in working with us, the next step is to set up a time to chat! You can reach me directly at hello@erikanderson-photo.info or at 815-222-8680.
